PassiveRecon is Firefox 4 Ready!

I just completed my testing for Firefox 4 and PassiveRecon is ready to go as I just updated the version information with Mozilla. One point to note about Firefox 4 though is that they have removed the status bar. So the ability to launch PassiveRecon is now only limited to right clicking the page you are on and then selecting the PassiveRecon menu from there.

Let me know if you have any issues with FF4 and PassiveRecon, but I doubt you will.

Also, please send me any requests for updates/enhancements!

PassiveRecon v2.00 Approved by Mozilla

Version 2.00 was approved last night, so hopefully you should see an update prompt beginning today when you start Firefox. If not, you can download it directly from the PassiveRecon Mozilla page, located at:

Again, look for the Chrome Extension and FF4 compatibility in October.

Version 2 Submitted to Mozilla

I just submitted version 2.00 of PassiveRecon to Mozilla. Hopefully it will be approved shortly. Below are the changes made in version 2:

Removed DNSStuff, EmailStuff (Not Responding), and SamSpade (Be Back Soon)
Added a New Logos
Added new Google/MS Office 2003/2007 file searching capabilities

Version 2.0 is not Firefox 4 compatible (or at least I haven't tried it yet). I will work on that shortly, along with the Chrome Extension, but I didn't want to sit on this until I have time to test and potentially rewrite the plugin to support FF4.

PassiveRecon 2.0 / Chrome Extension / DNSstuff

So it has been a while since I truly updated PassiveRecon. Now that I am taking a new position at a different firm, I will have some more time to work on this add-on.

To the folks who gave the add-on negative reviews, I am sorry that DNSstuff went to a $$$ model, but that doesn't negate the other information provided by the tool. I decided to leave it in there so if folks did have an account with them (like me), it would work well. That being said, I am removing DNSstuff from the next version (2.0), so as to keep with the "free" model.

Speaking of version 2.0, this will be released sometime later this month (September), and hopefully a Chrome Extension will soon follow (October). I have received a lot of great feedback and suggestions, and will integrate them the best I can.

Version 1.02 Released - Firefox 3.6.* Support

Uploaded version 1.02 tonight to Mozilla. Only change is that it now supports Firefox 3.6.*. I have posted it to RapidShare so that you can access it prior to Mozilla approving it.

v1.01 = Firefox 3.5 Compatibility

So when I updated to FF 3.5 today, I found a nice little feature in PR v1.0. I had limited the max version to 3.0.*. So I updated the code and submitted v1.01 to Mozilla. This is the only change from v1.0 to v1.1. In the meantime you can download PassiveRecon v1.01 below:

v1.0 & Mozilla Acceptance

A couple of notes for this latest post. First, I have updated to v1.0. I believe the extension is finally ready for 1.0 status as I have added some additional sites (thanks Pat & toggmeister) and added a status bar menu. The complete change log is below.

The second development is that Mozilla finally accepted the extension and now hosts it. As of this post the old version, 0.4, is posted. I have submitted the 1.0 version for review, so if you have the extension installed, you should get a prompt when it is accepted (assuming you have auto-update check enabled).

*** Update *** - Mozilla approved the update and published it yesterday, 11/17.

Version 0.4 Posted - Firefox Compatibility

Got a little push from Kevin over at vulnerabilityassessment.co.uk to add Firefox 3.0 compatibility, so below is a link to Version 0.4. Version 1.0 should be released sometime in early August. I have a lot of plans for that, and will post them to the blog shortly. Any suggestions are welcomed.

With some suggestions from my coworkers and friends, I added the following sites to the PassiveRecon Firefox extension:

DNSReport.com - Requires a membership if you use this more than once.
Robtex.com - I added both the root domain (abc.com) and the www 'A' record (www.abc.com) as they provide different information.

The extension has gotten little traction on Mozilla's internal development site (sandbox), so if you have the ability to review the extension and suggest it for 'public' release, I would greatly appreciate it!

PassiveRecon v0.1 Released

After relative ease, I am happy to announce that v0.1 of PassiveRecon is now available. I will post v0.2 once I have had ample time to test this version, as well as receive feedback from coworkers, friends, etc. and approval from an author who I "borrowed" some code from.
